The College of Lake County Foundation, a 501c3 institutionally related foundation, raises funds providing scholarships and grants to the College of Lake County. Under the direct supervision of the College of Lake County Foundation’s Executive Director, the Major Gift Officer is a strategic member of the CLC Foundation Staff. The Major Gift Officer will be instrumental in achieving the CLC Foundation’s annual revenue goals. The Major Gift Officer expands and cultivates a largely untapped prospective source of individual and private foundation donors. This position will create and execute fund raising strategies and plans needed to achieve sizable growth in revenue and donor base.
The objective of the Major Gift Officer is to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward through first creating/building and then managing a portfolio of donors, with the capacity to give $5,000 or more, raising $500,000 or more per year (over and above Special events and annual giving programs).
Create programs (other than existing special events, annual giving, and alumni programs) to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward high wealth, major gift and planned giving donors (individuals and private foundations) in Lake County, IL with a targeted focus on the southeast area of the county. Follow up with individuals and private foundations who have given through annual giving programs to raise incremental funds and build philanthropic relationships through moves management to major, special, and big gifts and planned giving.
The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit and the keen ability to multi-task. An interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting CLC Foundation’s fund raising priorities through developing excellent working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, Foundation Board members, CLC board of trustee members and other volunteers is essential. Must be self-managing, self-motivating, and self-directing. Balances intuitive and analytical skills with a willingness to “roll up sleeves to get the job done." Has a sense of urgency and ability to be responsive in a timely manner. Comfortable with high-level external constituencies, high-wealth individuals, as well as serving as an articulate spokesperson for CLC Foundation in public and private forums.
