The Archdiocese of Chicago has an opportunity for a Director of the Priests Retirement and Mutual Aid Association. The Director administers all aspects of the benefit program of the Priests Retirement and Mutual Aid Association. This person will serve as a trusted resource to Archdiocesan clergy in managing their benefits and providing guidance on care for retired priests. The Director manages benefits administration matters for the PRMAA, is responsible for ensuring timely payment of invoices as well as preparing budgets and future forecasts of revenue and expenses. Accountable for providing monthly report to PRMAA Board on financials and key cases.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted resource to active and retired priests
Communicate benefit plan features to priests
Manage communications to priests regarding benefits under the defined benefit pension and the 403b retirement plan.
Assist with and if necessary adjudicate claims resolution on health and pharmacy benefits.
Facilitate placement of priests (with priests, family, and service providers) the placement of priests in nursing care, long term care, assisted living and in-home care, and coordinate the payment for services. Placement decisions are made with consideration of personal circumstances of the priest, family concerns, available slots in preferred facilities, etc.
Collaborates with Vicars for Priests/Vicars for Senior Priests in coordination of care for priests.
Handle requests for mutual aid, within the scope of authority given by the PRMAA Board of Directors, by accepting pleas, referrals and requests for aid and by authorizing payment appropriate to the specific case in question.
Serve as an Archdiocesan representative in attending funerals and gatherings of Archdiocesan clergy, being present at these occasions and by being a resource as needed.
Meet with newly ordained to explain benefits.
Administration of health and welfare benefits
Manage the billing for multiple health and welfare plans
Nursing home/assisted living care
Individual caregivers (where applicable)
Coordinate retiree drug subsidy filing
Process life insurance claims
Participate in review of benefit program and plan design
Administration of priest retirement programs
Administer the DB pension program, coordinating with Northern Trust to initiate pension benefits, maintain demographic information, and terminate benefits.
Coordinate (with the plan record keeper) the calculation and allocation of quarterly match contributions on the 403b.
Participate in quarterly reviews of 403b plan investment and administration
Bachelor’s Degree in related field, Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or Pastoral Ministry preferred
Minimum of 5 years of Business administration office experience or equivalent combination of formal education and related work experience, with a preference for direct Human Resources experience and direct experience working with Roman Catholic Diocesan priests
Must have concern and care for the welfare and wellbeing of Archdiocesan clergy.
Thorough understanding of Employee Benefits Management, outstanding interpersonal relationship skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality in personnel related matters including health care and personal information.
Proven supervision and management skills with sound decision making capabilities
Good interpersonal relationship skills,
Knowledge and understanding of the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church,
Basic accounting skills
Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite including
