This position is responsible for managing, coordinating, and administering volunteer program(s) for assigned programs or projects. Responsibilities will include managing, recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluating a diverse group of volunteers in accordance with TPAN’s vision, mission and philosophy. This position promotes and supports volunteerism as a key element in all areas of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruits, interviews, selects, orients, trains, schedules and evaluates volunteers in applicable volunteer areas of opportunity. Maintains volunteer staff files as required, including service hours, annual evaluations and in-service training and education.
Develops and implements recruitment, retention and recognition strategies to achieve annual volunteer program goals. Designs and implements innovative programs in support retention.
Oversees and supervises volunteers throughout the agency. Manages volunteer resources and people to achieve the program goals and provide support to organizations programs.
Manages and facilitates initial volunteer training and ongoing training. Insures that all volunteers receive job descriptions, training checklists and on-the-job training in their assigned service areas.
Manages, prepares, and maintains appropriate and accurate statistical data, volunteer files, and program information. Oversees and assures the documentation and maintenance of appropriate statistics, and accurate volunteer file maintenance.
Manages and facilitates volunteer program development in new program areas by working closely with appropriate Director or Manager.
Provides updates at weekly Development meetings and other meetings as assigned
Participates and directs the volunteer function for major events to include “Dining Out For Life”, the “Ride for AIDS Chicago” and other community events especially community events during Pride Month in June and other events as required.
Works with corporate volunteer programs, university volunteer programs and organizational volunteer programs to secure volunteers on an ongoing basis.
Communicates on a regular basis with other Development team members to determine volunteer needs and forecasts future needs in advance.
Knowledge of applicable principles and practices as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and a working knowledge of program management principles and practices as normally demonstrated through a minimum of two years relevant experience.
Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact and provide assistance to a diverse group of individuals. Must have a working knowledge of computer software to include Microsoft Suite, e-mail, and donor software. Skilled in handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task workload in a fast paced environment. Proficient use of written language in composing a variety of presentations, policies, procedures, and other applicable communication pieces. Skilled in maintaining composure and professional demeanor in difficult and stressful situations.
Prior experience working with volunteers in an oversight capacity.
