The Accountant is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. Knowledge of Quick-books PRO non-profit is a must. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Accountant will have contact with the firm’s Executive Director which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts - Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures - Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met - Prepare financial management reports - Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close - Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures - Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities - Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities - Monitor and support taxation issues - Develop and maintain financial data bases - Financial audit preparation and coordinate the audit process - Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses - Analyze and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues - Analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems - Ongoing monthly bookkeeping duties: o Record transactions in QuickBooks on a monthly basis o Reconcile bank account(s) on a monthly basis o Record grant transactions o Pay bills o Process payroll (enter approved hours, process payroll, print checks, record payroll entries) o Prepare reports per the grant requirements - Provide reports on a monthly basis: o Statement of Activities/Profit & Loss (including comparisons to previous periods) o Statement of Financial Position/Balance Sheet (including comparisons to previous periods) o Statement of Cash Flows o Actual vs. Projected Budget o A/R and A/P Aging, if applicable - Other: o Review employee and vendor files for compliance o Prepare budgets o Present financials to Board of Directors
