The Benedictine Sisters of Chicago invite applications for the position of Communications Coordinator. The Benedictine Sisters are a monastic community of Roman Catholic women who live, pray, and serve God's people together.
The position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for communication with all monastery constituencies (donors, alumnae, vocation discerners, Oblates, and friends). This position will increase the visibility of the monastery and strengthen its brand in order to share the Benedictine charism with Catholics in the Chicagoland area and beyond. The role reports to the Director of Development and also works with the Director of Oblates and Vocation Minister.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
EMAIL: Directs the email program that includes a monthly e-newsletter, reconciles new email subscribers and responds to those who unsubscribe.
SOCIAL MEDIA: Coordinates the development and upkeep of all social media "(currently Facebook and Twitter) for the monastery, as well as photography for events. This includes daily scripture reflections, daily posts, and the Prayer Pause program.
WEBSITE: Act as webmaster for the monastery, performing updates, edits, additions, deletions,etc. On a weekly basis, this includes posting the Sunday reflection and on a bi-weekly basis, a news update. Responds to all online prayer requests; creates weekly online prayer intention list for chapel through development assistant. Edits the vocation blog.
MAGAZINE/ANNUAL REPORT: Manages, designs, writes, or gets writers, and edits the newsletter and annual report. Pulls mailing list, Works with printer.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: Handles all advertising and public relations for the monastery, including press releases, talking points, arranging interviews, etc.
BRAND: Maintain the brand guide, create an annual communications plan based on the brand guide, and create a communications calendar.
ANALYTICS: Track analytics on a monthly basis and keep reports for Facebook, Twitter, email, and website.
EVENTS: Assists the Director of Development with annual events, including, but not limited to, the Alumnae Reunion, Testimonial Dinner, and the Appreciation Liturgy.
EDITING: Assists the Director of Development to edit and proofread grant proposals and reports, when needed.
PRINT MATERIALS: Designs, provides copy, and coordinates assorted printed materials. Create communications and development packets for all spirituality programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, English, or related field.
Familiarity with Catholicism
At least 1-2 years of demonstrated job-related experience with non-profit organization.
Creative skills in communications (verbal, written, interpersonal).
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Exceptional computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and social media.
Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to protect the confidentiality of all information and effectively communicate with multiple stakeholders.
Ability to work at the monastery, located in Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago.
Occasional evening or weekend hours necessary for special events
