ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The primary responsibilities of the position are as follows:
Post accounting subsidiary ledgers to general ledger
Prepare adjusting journal entries related to month-end close (e.g. revenue recognition, payroll–related activity, expense accruals, allocations, etc.)
Prepare reconciliations of cash accounts to bank statements
Maintain fixed asset records and post journal entries for depreciation expense
Analyze and prepare reconciliations for other balance sheet accounts (e.g. prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, payroll withholding, etc.)
Prepare financial reports and budget variance analysis
Prepare invoicing to various types of funders/sponsors for research projects
Provide project reconciliation support to Research Administration and Compliance staff
Process expense reports and corporate credit card statements for specific Research & Policy staff
Assist Controller and Director of Financial Operations with financial and governmental audits
Assist Controller and Director of Financial Operations with developing annual operating and capital budgets
Maintain accounting controls through compliance with company policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state and local requirements
Special projects and other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other business related field
Minimum 2 years of practical work experience in an accounting role
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
Working knowledge of financial software and understanding of business systems integration. Prior experience with Financial Edge, Tenrox and Sentric, a plus
Prior experience working in a policy center, institute of higher education or non-profit organization, a plus
Ability to work discretely with confidential information required
Must be thorough and detail oriented
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
