Coordinate and facilitate outreach/awareness activities about domestic and dating violence, including primary prevention. Facilitate implementation of strategies to prevent domestic and dating violence and engage the community in systemic change.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a core group of male allies to assist in implementing awareness activities and social activism efforts within the communities Pillars’ serves.
Develop a task force to address male responsibility in eliminating domestic and dating violence on local college campuses.
Partner with local high schools to co-facilitate the “Wise Guys” curriculum with students and faculty and/or other curriculums focused on male responsibility and male allies.
Coordinate and facilitate professional training events with law enforcement, criminal justice system personnel and hospital personnel and interested social service organizations/providers.
Represent Pillars and promote Pillars’ domestic violence services at community health fairs and other similar venues and in conjunction with Pillars’ sexual assault services when feasible.
In collaboration with the advancement department, cultivate media contacts in order to establish additional forums in which to enhance awareness of domestic and dating violence in the community.
Cultivate and develop relationships with local church leaders and their congregation in order to engage diverse religious communities in conversations about bullying, gender harassment, dating violence, domestic and sexual violence.
Participate on committees of community based networks and groups likely to increase awareness of domestic and dating violence issues.
Facilitate referrals and linkages of survivors to community resources as appropriate.
Facilitate a weekly residential group. Provide back-up coverage for Residential Family Advocates when needed.
Assist the Coordinator of Domestic Violence Advocacy and Outreach in facilitating the 60 hour- professional domestic and sexual violence training in conjunction with Pillars’ domestic violence program.
Work with the domestic violence outreach team to implement activities during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) in October and the sexual assault advocates during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in April.
Integrate outreach activities with Pillars’ domestic violence program when feasible for both programs.
Comply with program funding, administrative and statistical reporting which includes documenting activities and client services and submitting reimbursement reports and time cards on time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or Criminal Justice, or equivalent combination of education and human services or criminal justice experience required. Experience in public relations, marketing, human services, or related field desirable.
40 hour domestic violence training certificate preferred. Or, complete 40 hour training within three months of hire date. Public speaking experience required. A special interest in social activism regarding women’s issues is essential. Must be able to collaborate with people from diverse community and religious institutions. Ability to perform competently in a crisis situation is recommended.
Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing in English is required. Ability to present information effectively and interact appropriately with managers, line staff, victims, adolescents, volunteers, group leaders, pastors, social workers, hospital personnel is essential.
Ability to communicate in a logical, balanced manner, when others do not agree with you is necessary. Capacity for prioritizing demands of the job, where concern for victim safety and confidentiality are the top priorities. Ability to interpret and document events that are written and spoken and/or appear in diagram or schedule form.
While performing this job, the employee must sit, talk and listen to adults, teenagers and children. The employee must be able to travel to different locations in the course of a work day.
Employee’s primary work location is the Constance Morris House office. Employee must travel between event/presentation locations and this office several times a week, including some weekend days. Dress is professional while representing the Program and Agency in the community. Employee must perform their duties in a professional, respectful manner as guests of the host presentation site and as a representative of Pillars. At the same time, employee is expected to adhere to the philosophy and mission of the domestic and sexual violence line of service programs. This includes upholding the confidentiality of survivors and their identifying information.
While performing in this job, the employee might be exposed to disturbing descriptions of physical and sexual violence and emotional abuse as well as to adults, adolescents and children with visible injuries resulting from the violence.
