Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI), the camp and meeting place of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) in the Midwest, has been serving tens of thousands of adults and children since 1952. As a leader in the Reform Jewish Camping Movement, and in partnership with Reform Congregations and families, OSRUI awakens, heightens and intensifies Jewish identity by creating and nurturing a vibrant Jewish living environment through summer camp and year-round programs. OSRUI is located in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and serves youth from metropolitan Chicago and throughout the Midwest.
The Development Assistant is responsible for managing data entry, gift processing, acknowledgements and reporting for OSRUI’s fundraising activities, as well as managing OSRUI’s development database and supporting other activities of the annual and capital campaign.
As such the candidate will be detail-oriented, display integrity and professional ethics in working with highly confidential, sensitive information and have strong computer and administrative skills. In addition, the development assistant should be proactive in establishing financial tracking and reporting systems and be effective in working independently writing reports, acknowledgement letters, proposals, other general correspondence and documents. Ideally, the candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or work experience in Computer Science or Information Science and a working knowledge of various fundraising software programs such as Raiser’s Edge and Donor Perfect Online, but neither are required.
The Development Assistant is supervised by OSRUI’s Director of Development and works in coordination with URJ headquarters.
This is a part-time, entry to midlevel position, based in OSRUI’s business office in Deerfield, IL.
Gift Processing and Acknowledgment: Manage gift processing and ensure timely gift acknowledgements. This includes, but is not limited to tasks such as:
Manage the donor invoice process, including tracking and sending regular pledge reminders
Enter complete and accurate donation and pledge information into the databases (Raiser’s Edge and Donor Perfect Online)
Reconcile monthly financial reports
Draft and send acknowledgement letters according to gift acknowledgement plan
Database Management: Manage input of data into Raiser’s Edge and Donor Perfect Online Fundraising Software. This includes, but is not limited to tasks such as:
Maintain integrity of all data inputs/outputs of the Raiser’s Edge and other fundraising software databases
Collect and enter new data from alumni, donors and other stakeholders
Update constituent information as received
Build and run frequent (daily, weekly, monthly) reports on data for members of the development team and board, based on needs and benchmarking
Play a key role in the database software transition from Raiser’s Edge to Salesforce
Additional Development Activities: Provide support to development staff in the management and implementation of Annual and Capital Campaign activities. This includes, but is not limited to activities such as:
Grant proposal preparation
Direct mail appeal
Communications – newsletter, website and social media
