The JCC provides programming opportunities for teens to create deeper connections to Judaism and their communities. The Teen Engagement Coordinator will work primarily with Jewish Student Connection, but will also have the opportunity to be a part of the following teen programs:
Jewish Student Connection provides high school students with an in-school informal educational experience focused on compelling issues of Jewish pride, identity and connection to Israel.
Project Teen-Seed613 empowers Jewish teen girls to work together to identify challenges in the community and create solutions, whether big or small, that will make a meaningful difference.
JSC Scholars, a merit scholarship program, enables teens to participate in life-changing Jewish programs such as Maccabi, Diller, youth group conventions and more.
All Star Abilities is a fitness literacy, wellness instruction, and recreational opportunity for teenagers with special needs in concert with community partners and peer volunteers.
Serving as the local Teen Engagement Coordinator, responsibilities will include:
Plan and organize weekly JSC club activities to inspire Jewish pride and identity.
Develop educational materials (multimedia, source/reference material, skits, and/or creative educational presentations) for use in JSC clubs.
Advertise and recruit for those clubs, utilizing print materials posted and announcements within the schools, social media, as well as other methods reach target attendance number and continue to grow the club.
Track and enter attendance, interactions, and other pertinent data into JSC database on a weekly basis.
Purchase snacks and beverages to bring with you to each JSC club meeting.
Assist in planning and implementation of other JCC teen programs, i.e., volunteer opportunities, Project Teen-Seed613, All Star Abilities, etc...
Work with JCC staff to develop unique city-wide educational programs that can engage and educate teens.
Foster and maintain relationships with club participants; work to ensure their continued involvement in Jewish life beyond attendance at the JSC clubs.
Connect with teens outside of JSC clubs at community events as a representative of JSC and JCC.
Identify new potential schools for JSC clubs, establish relationships with teens and faculty at those schools.
Think creatively about usage of JSC social media (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat) and maintain accounts.
Develop and foster relationships with school administration and staff to ensure both JCC and the school goal are met and exceeded.
Maintain weekly out-of-club communications with JSC participants.
Approximately 22 hours per week, Monday-Thursday 2:30-4:30pm (when JSC clubs meet) with the remaining hours flexible (based programming needs and supervisor input); additional hours could be available for family engagement programming.
Minimum age of 18 years and high school diploma; previous experience with teens in a youth group, camp or teen leadership environment; demonstrated ability to be energetic and personable; a passion for working as part of a broader team of professionals dedicated to Jewish teen education and outreach; must be able to communicate with a varied audience including teens, parents, school staff and other JCC colleagues; Commitment to one school year highly preferred.
Candidates must be able to work some evening and weekend events and have the ability and willingness to travel locally, between city and suburbs with their own vehicle. Dependability, timeliness, flexibility and adaptability a must!
