We operate accredited early learning, elementary, and out of school time programs grounded in research-based curricula and high-quality instruction. Understanding that stand-alone education interventions are not enough, Christopher House utilizes a family-centered approach that engages parents and care givers in the child’s healthy development and provides opportunities for sustained economic self-sufficiency for the whole family. We have built on our portfolio of early learning centers to expand this transformative culture into a birth to eighth grade school composed of an Early Childhood and Elementary School. The school is creating unprecedented collaboration between early childhood and elementary educators as well as family support programs
Para Professional Objective: Provide for the education and development of students with special needs.
Reports to: Case Manager and Principal
Responsibilities: Works with individual student to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff. Informs certified staff of any problem or special information about individual student. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about individual student. Maintains safe working environment for both individual student and students/staff within classroom. Monitors and implements behavior intervention strategies to ensure safety of student and students/staff within the classroom. Utilize appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline. Model positive behavior and set/follow through with expectations. Maintain and collect data to inform curricular and behavioral interventions. Provide individual support in de-escalation of behavior using strategies introduced and taught by certified staff. Participate in professional development workshops as assigned by administration; assist with office when not required to attend professional development.
Schedule: Para Professionals are expected to arrive at 7:30 am every morning and stay until 3:30pm. A dedicated lunch break is included daily.
Qualifications: Bi-lingual skills in Spanish and/or experience working with students that are special needs and English Language Learners highly desirable.
