The education and community outreach specialist supports the Director, Executive Director, and team at UChicago Medicine Kovler Diabetes to engage with internal and external partners in diabetes care, education and community engagement. As part of the Kovler Diabetes Center team, the ideal candidate will design, coordinate and executive community events, programs and services for individuals with diabetes, physicians, nurses, community members and philanthropic donors. These events may include but are not limited to: pediatric diabetes events, walks, fundraisers, dinners and other functions.
The desired candidate will have an eye for detail, a passion for our work, an interest in supporting the needs of others. A detailed multitasker who loves events and planning programs is essential in this role. A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in communications, journalism, health care administration, public relations, marketing/event management or business.
University and/or academic experience in an development, marketing or administrative role is strongly preferred. Event management, social media, community coordination experience of 1-2 years is strongly preferred. Knowledge and understanding of fundraising, development, corporate and community engagement and experience is strongly preferred. An advanced degree is preferred but not required.
Although this is a 8-5P Monday-Friday role, the ideal candidate MUST be willing to work evening and weekend hours planning, supporting events when necessary.
The education and community outreach specialist will be responsible for:
-Communicating frequently with faculty, staff, senior leaders, community organizers and donors.
-Facilitating social media plans and developing/writing/editing pieces for publication.
-Planning, managing and executing events and programs with an eye for detail.
-Supporting the Director and executive Director with administrative needs.
-Developing/editing press releases, letters, grants, stewardship reports for donors, clinical research marketing and recruitment materials, and other important tools for educating the public and other sectors re: the mission and vision of the Kovler Diabetes Center.
-Management of operational budgets, event expenses and reimbursements for and with Kovler's Executive Director.
-Interact frequently, effectively and gracefully with University senior leaders, Kovler Leadership Board members, as well as parents of children with diabetes, physicians and other esteemed University of Chicago Faculty.
