Job Summary:. Program Assistants are responsible for the day-to-day operations in designated program area(s) ensuring the 5 key elements are established.
Program Assistants are responsible for programs and activities that provide direct service to our members. Assistants ensure a well rounded and enriching experience for all members through carefully planned and executed programs and activities.
Program Assistants are responsible for ensuring an environment conducive to learning through positive guidance and discipline, and implementing processes and systems that lead to a well organized and run program area.
Ensure the 5 Key Elements are present in designated program area:
Safe, Positive Environment
Ensure programs and age-appropriate settings create stability, consistency and a sense of physical and emotional safety for members.
Provide structure and clearly define acceptable behaviors.
Proudly wear name badge and uniform at all times.
Guarantee program Area(s) are left clean, chairs pushed in, trash picked up off floor, lights turned off, and items returned to proper place. As a general rule, areas are left cleaner than they were found.
Generate FUN for members and ensure members develop a strong sense of belonging through connections they establish with staff and peers.
Ensure program area feels like home, fostering a family atmosphere and creating a sense of ownership for members.
Add an element of fun using jokes, riddles, team building, ice breakers or other on the spot fun activities everyday.
Ensure members develop meaningful relationships with peers and adults. Actively encourage such relationships. Dig deeper into knowing each member learning about their family, strengths, weaknesses, interest, talents, etc…
Display warmth, caring appreciation, acceptance and guidance in interactions with members.
Opportunities & Expectations
Ensure club youth acquire physical, social, technological, artistic and life skills as designated by program area.
Encourage members to develop a moral character reinforcing high expectations and help members with school and post-secondary education.
Recognize and support young people’s self-worth and accomplishments.
Encourage youth and provide positive reinforcement as they make improvements and experience successes.
Ensure area(s) showcase young people’s achievements.
Programs & Activities
Program and activity plans are completed on a timely basis as directed by supervisor.
Daily schedules are posted on the dry erase board everyday outside program area or distributed to members.
Assistants recruit members to join programs and activities in program area.
Programs and activities include a list of supplies needed. Assistant, with help from Supervisor, ensures supplies are available when needed.
Assistant uses program area management techniques to gain control of area and ensure members are engaged and ready to begin activities.
Assistant gives clear and east to follow instructions to members before each program and activity ensuring members understand rules, expectations and directions.
Assistants regularly provide positive feedback and encouragement for members during programs and activities.
Assistants have a clear start and end time with programs and activities and these times are followed to ensure positive program area management.
Assistant uses bulletin board and program area space to highlight members achievements in programs and activities.
Communication on walkie talkies is done in a professional manner. Communication is clear, concise and important to overall operations of the Club.
Program attendance is taken when necessary
Ensure program evaluations when needed to meet grant requirements and organizational objectives
Be energetic, passionate and engaged!
Experience in youth development is preferred.
Ability to organize, supervise and discipline youth members ages 6 to 18.
Maintain a high energy level.
Be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
Speak clearly and hear normal conversations as well as out of the ordinary noises.
