As part of the team, you drive and set the strategic direction of the activities, systems and processes to support the timely publishing of all CPT content across multiple channels and for providing advice on the proper use and application of CPT to key stakeholders. Responsible for data management of all CPT content areas including core CPT content and CPT educational content presented in CPT Assistant and Clinical Examples in Radiology. Direct AMA staff and physician/non-physician CPT Advisors, CPT Assistant Editorial Board members and other subject matter experts to develop CPT and proper coding educational content to maintain AMA’s leadership role in health care coding and reimbursement. Support the activities of the CPT Editorial Panel in maintaining the CPT code set by working with national medical specialty societies, non-physician professional organizations, public and private payers, pharmaceutical and device manufactures, and other high profile stakeholders.
Other Responsibilities will include:
Create strategic plans to support development of CPT content. Manage cross-functional teams responsible for maintenance of content feeding into these products.
Serve as Managing Editor of the CPT Assistant and of Clinical Examples in Radiology newsletters. Serve as Secretary of the CPT Assistant Editorial Board; manage the functions and processes of the CPT Assistant Editorial Board and strategically expedite solutions to difficult issues presented to the Board.
Bachelor’s degree and advanced coding or health information certification required (RHIA, RHIT, CCS_P or CPC). Master or advanced clinical degree preferred.
Minimum 10 years health care administration experience with an emphasis on coding and reimbursement policy required. 8-10 years’ experience working with the CPT code set or equivalent medical society Advisory Committee experience required.
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in managing health information content development, especially coding and reimbursement content, required.
7 years’ management experience with demonstrated ability to identify, develop and mentor potential leaders and employees.
Knowledge of current clinical coding terminologies, and other standard classification systems required. Must have an understanding of ontological structures, and how these structures impact clinical terminologies such as CPT.
Adept in building and analyzing quality and production metrics that not only preserve and improve the current integrity of CPT that is normative for the AMA required.
Demonstrated ability to direct multiple projects and effectively deal with difficult situations and manage opposing internal and external interests; a strong background in project management required. Demonstrated experience developing and managing organizational and operational budgets for multiple and diverse products and projects.
Superior writing, research, and analytical skills, including the ability to clearly conceptualize issues, synthesize and organize material, and develop and write comprehensive/insightful reports and other materials.
Exceptional oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively and professionally represent the AMA in external organizations, successfully interact with high-profile individuals, negotiate sensitive issues, and achieve consensus with multi-stakeholder groups.
