Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Associate Director of Development and Communications will implement the agency’s fundraising plan and associated activities, including event planning, grant writing, and solicitations of individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations. The Associate Director also oversees agency marketing and communications, and coordinates volunteer intake and select volunteer activities.

For greatest success candidates must be outgoing, self-motivated, organized, able to multi-task, and work well as part of a diverse team. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Familiarity with Chicago’s South Side and public and private school systems are a plus.
Maintains current knowledge of development field and develops linkages to the professional fundraising community.
Represents the agency positively and professionally when interacting with various stakeholder groups.
Maintains confidentiality of agency matters.
Attends staff meetings, internal/external professional development trainings (per grants or otherwise), and conferences/workshops as needed to build skill sets.
Specific Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree; graduate degree preferred.
Minimum three years of experience in fundraising with proven ability to successfully handle development functions, including event planning, grant writing, use of databases and other sources for locating biographical, financial, and philanthropic information, and proven track record with individual gift cultivation and solicitation.
Marketing & public relations experience
Superior writing and communication skills
Skilled with MS Office. Experience with Adobe Illustrator and website management / WordPress a plus
Proven ability to work successfully with, and build relationships among, diverse populations.
