BEDS Plus Care provides emergency overnight shelter and support services including case management for homeless persons in southwest suburban Cook County communities. The Manager of Emergency Services and Outreach will oversee all emergency overnight shelter and street outreach efforts for BEDS Plus Care. This position will lead a team of case managers and support staff in partnership with a core of dedicated volunteers, trying to engage and stabilize the literally homeless population. The Emergency Services and Outreach Manager will lead shelter operations including volunteer coordination, case management services and take on specialized cases from both the West and South shelter systems.
1. Volunteer and Shelter Management
Oversee and implementation of ongoing training program that educates shelter volunteers with the help of volunteer coordinators and shelter case managers.
Supervise two staff responsible for volunteer management and recruitment.
Work with overnight shelter site coordinators to schedule volunteers and ensure that staffing at all sites is adequate, including site volunteers, cooks, and laundry personnel for each night
Ensure quality of volunteer records.
Ensure faith community property and grounds are respected.
2. Shelter Case Management
Lead shelter operations for west and south shelter systems. Serve as lead case manager for west shelter.
Serve as Staff-on Duty on a regular monthly schedule. Develop shelter staffing schedule for west & south shelter operations.
Assign cases to team members based on functional expertise and provide direct support for team members in order to move clients along their individual service plans.
Carry a caseload of up to 15 active cases, primarily in west service territory
Develop and work with staff to implement street outreach plan for service territory.
Ensure accurate client records are maintained.
Ensure all client data and services transactions are entered within 48-hour period.
Assist with outreach efforts to referral sources and select community resources
Attend Continuum of Care meetings as assigned by Program Director
Maintain cooperative relationship with providers, faith community leaders and volunteers.
Competent case manager
Knowledgeable of best-practices in the field of homeless services
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work well independently and lead a team
Maturity and good judgment in relating to staff and volunteers
Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
Availability, dependability, and willingness to be flexible
Bachelor’s degree in social work or psychology. BSW or MSW preferred.
Five or more years of experience in a related field
