We are now hiring for a part-time English/Scholarship Writing Academic Coach and a part-time Chemistry/Biology Academic Coachto join our Upward Bound Team!
Upward Bound is an intensive pre-college program designed to support low-income, first potential generation students in college enrollment and degree attainment. An Academic Coach will be required to manage a classroom of 8 students. Classes are held on Thursday evenings, 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am -4:00 pm.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ability to engage students in their learning process
Implement lessons utilizing project based learning principles
Provide weekly lesson plans to your director
Ability to effectively communicate lessons
Create project curriculum
Document all tutoring sessions with students using sign-in-sheets
Be on time for sessions with students.
Continuously evaluate progress with students.
Provide group sessions, instruction and academic support in specialized subject area(s).
Provide support to students preparing scholarship and college applications, that include response to essays, personal statements, resumes, portfolio development, cover letter, community service vita.
Assist students with coordinating the submission of well-written material and organized college/scholarship application packets.
Monitor student plan for post secondary enrollment.
Assist Upward Bound team in recruitment, engagement and retention of students in Upward Bound.
Potential candidates at a minimum must have an associate’s degree.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must have knowledge and experience in addressing the needs of target population.
