The Elks National Foundation has an entry-level opportunity for a fundraising professional at its national headquarters in Chicago. The Development Assistant is part of a fundraising team, working with both individual donors and national fundraising volunteers. Reporting to the Manager of Development and Events, the Development Assistant will focus on giving programs such as monthly giving and matching gifts.
Coordinate monthly giving program with goal to increase the number of donors committed to this giving method.
Work on focused giving program efforts.
Serve on customer service team. (Must be able to originate all forms of communications and correspondence.)
Perform data-entry and data extraction in the donor database to accomplish daily, weekly and monthly departmental tasks.
Provide day-to-day support for the Development Department and execute assigned projects. Will also assist with routine administrative details for the department.
Qualified candidates will have one or more years of relevant experience.
Work requires attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
Must be able to consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.
Must have excellent spelling and grammar; good phone skills; be organized; be able to set priorities and meet deadlines; be able to multi-task and carefully proof own work.
Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
Some analytical ability is required to gather and summarize data for reports, identify problems and find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work.
Must be able to work individually as well as participate on teams.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office is a must; Raiser’s Edge and/or Luminate Online is a plus.
Must have a sense of humor.
