Provides and maintain home-based visits for 12 families on a weekly basis.
Conducts 48 home visits for each child during the program year
Completes COPA, Parents As Teacher (PAT) lesson plans, personal record visits, teaching strategies, and in-kind on a weekly basis.
Plans and implements developmentally appropriate home based activities.
Works jointly with parents and develops weekly home visit and weekly activity plans based on each child’s assessment and identified family needs.
Demonstrates commitment to the process of developing and maintaining quality relationships with children and families.
Maintains and preserves a confidential family file.
Observes, assesses and documents each child’s development based on the school readiness goals, health, behavior, and children with special needs.
Develops with parent input, and individualized education plan for each child.
Plans and provides children with group socialization experiences.
Facilitates parent’s active involvement in partnership with the parent during the home visit by preparing appropriate activities to the parent to present to the child.
Collaborates with the Family Support Specialist in case management screenings and staffing in order to advocate for Early Head Start families between families, the program, and the large community.
Works in collaboration with family support for the recruitment and enrollment of eligible families.
Assists in identifying children with special needs and makes the necessary referrals.
Encourages parent participation in the Early Head Start Parent Committee meetings as well as group socializations, and other events or trainings.
Assists in planning and implementation of socializations and monthly parent meetings.
Contributes to the Agency’s efforts related to prevention and integrated service delivery with other community providers. Illustrates knowledge of the Agency’s Continuous Quality Improvement Activities.
Participates in on-going training and staff development provided by the funding source, the Education Coordinator, Director, other consultants, workshops and conferences.
Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings, education meetings, social service and health meetings.
Integrates other components, i.e. health, nutrition, mental health, parent involvement and special needs into the home visit.
Supports and contributes to inter-system collaboration with other service providers to improve social service delivery systems.
Completes other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
A minimal of 12 ECE credit hours and/or a CDA
Experience working with young children is required, and at least two years of experience with Early Head Start is preferred.
Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups.
Must be able to make home visits to present and prospective and former clients in the clients’ own home.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or the organization.
Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
Must demonstrate the ability to establish helping relationships with families of varying educational, experiential and socio-economic backgrounds and handle emergency and crisis situations.
Ability to uphold the Early Head Start performance standards in the educational, nutritional, health, social service and parent involvement components.
Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
Parent Educators must receive training in education, nutrition, and other topics relevant for the position, and must plan and implement appropriate family/parent educational activities and function as a member of the program team.
Schedule may be flexible and may include some evening and weekends.
Valid Driver’s License and Automobile Insurance.
Bilingual/Bicultural in English and Spanish.
Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
Must be able frequently move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Must be able to transport oneself to and from home visits.
Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
Constantly positions oneself to assist children during activities.
Frequently moves desks, chairs, tables, easels, and children's toys.
At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs. for various classrooms and events needs.
