Erie Neighborhood House, a progressive social service agency serving the Chicago metropolitan area and dedicated to promoting a just and inclusive society, is seeking an entry level Staff Accountant. Reporting to the Accounting Manager the Staff Accountant’s basic function is to perform a variety of financial functions as listed in the position responsibilities.
Processes accounts payable, including check requests, assignment of cost, and scheduling/distribution of payments at least twice monthly.
Process all manual checks as needed.
Receives, processes, and reconciles company credit card information for payment at least twice monthly.
Responsible for following up with vendors, directors, or employees for all outstanding checks. Processes voiding or re-issuing of checks as needed.
Produces annual 1099s.
Arranges and maintains the organization and safekeeping of accounting records and documents.
Prepares monthly benefit reconciliations, reconciles with Benefit administrator, and enters adjusting entries as needed.
Cross train with weekly deposit preparation and entering into accounting software.
Prepares postage and duplicating allocation entries for the monthly close.
Prepares reports as required for internal and external use.
Prepares various journal entries as needed.
Provides assistance with annual audit activities.
Prepares various balance sheet reconciliations as needed.
Maintains Fixed Asset records for the agency.
Assists in coverage of the Payment Office.
Provides assistance on special projects as needed and other duties as assigned.
Puts together a policies and procedure manual for the responsibilities listed above.
