The Director of the Mission Office seeks to educate and inspire Catholics in the Archdiocese of Chicago to take seriously their baptismal responsibility to be on mission in whatever context they live and work. The Director serves the Church’s missionaries from around the world while remaining firmly rooted in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Director is also the coordinator of Pontifical Mission Societies.
The Director, and Missions Office staff, are charged with working with relevant stakeholders, as appropriate, to help ensure the success of Renew My Church objectives, and the execution of Archdiocesan strategic priorities.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Educates and forms an understanding of mission in the Christian faith by means of presentation, writing and presence throughout the Archdiocese.
Serves as Secretary to The Society for the Propagation of the Faith board of directors and its chairperson, the Archbishop of Chicago
Oversees the Pontifical Mission Societies’ projects and programming:
World Mission Sunday and The Society for the Propagation of the Faith
The Society of St. Peter Apostle
Missionary Childhood Association
Liaison to Pontifical Mission Societies USA
Oversees summer Mission Cooperative Plan.
Manages all financial operations, organization and reporting for the Mission Office. Provides seamless contingency planning to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
Promotes prayer for missionaries, mission dioceses and sisters and brothers in faith.
Fosters relationships between the Archdiocese and Catholic missionary dioceses, communities and organizations.
Collaborates with Archdiocesan agencies, parishes, missionary communities, and organizations to inspire a missionary spirit
Hires, evaluates, trains and manages Mission Office staff.
Provides strategic direction that encourages increased commitment by donors, and ensures contemporary relevancy for all stakeholders.
Provides leadership that inspires excellence, ongoing enhancements and the confidence of Pastors and Missionaries.
Provides training and coaching to Pastors and Missionaries to ensure quality engagements.
Work with the Archdiocese to support efforts that intersect with the mission of the office and that support Archdiocesan priorities and Renew My Church objectives.
Manages all representation, promotion and communication (website, social media) for the Mission Office and its services.
Bachelor’s Degree in theology, ministry or related subject Master’s level studies in missiology, theology or ministry preferred
Some advanced studies in missiology or intercultural ministry.
Background in formation, ministry, and administration.
Knowledge and experience in cross-cultural and intercultural dynamics
Cross-Cultural mission experienc required, three years plus cross-cultural mission placement preferred
Experience effectively managing a team and department/agency
More than one setting/country experience.
Leadership presence that provokes confidence in all operational and strategic activities of the office.
Clear communication skills, both oral and written
Adult formation and education
Management, administration, finance.
Fund-raising experience preferred
Previous work experience within the Archdiocese of Chicago preferred
Multi-lingual- Spanish or Polish preferred
Availability to work overtime as needed or on weekends
Available to travel internationally
