Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the School currently enrolls 940 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced First Grade Teacher to join our expert and collaborative faculty. Responsibilities include instruction in all major curricular areas: beginning reading, phonics, word study, beginning writing, handwriting, mathematics and social studies. Regular communication via newsletters, phone calls or e-mails with parents is expected. Coordination of educational plans through working with outside specialists is often necessary, as well as curricular modification in the classroom.

M.A. in Education
Significant, classroom teaching experience; 5 year minimum preferred
Excellent verbal communication skills, superior organizational skills
Outstanding written skills for communication and for documentation, including writing narrative report cards
Knowledge about and experience with the developmental, social, emotional and cognitive issues of the primary early grades
Experience with early reading and mathematical instructional strategies
Experience in and a commitment to developing one’s own cultural competency and seeking, continually, greater levels of diversity, equity and inclusion in practices and in curricula
Ability to work successfully with colleagues on a team
Flexibility, tact and grace in talking with parents
Ability to integrate subject matter
Familiarity with the tenets of progressive education
