Case Management/Social Services, Education/Teaching/Training
The employee, under the direction of the Director of the Helping Hand School and in accordance with stated agency policies and procedures, provides speech and language services to Students in the School for Children with Autism.
Evaluate language and oral motor skills related to communication: areas of assessment are hearing, receptive language, expressive language, oral motor skills, and articulation.
Provide speech and language therapy to children, 3-21 years, through individual and group sessions.
Write formal evaluation/assessment reports that include useful information for programming.
Develop and implement treatment plans incorporating IEP goals.
Complete all required paper work.
Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team:
Attend classroom and other meetings including IEP and Domain meetings as required.
Collaborate with other staff in creating a treatment plan
Assist teacher in providing for the functional needs of the student in the classroom.
Provide direct speech and language therapy to students in individual and in group settings, working with the student and the school team to facilitate a child’s functions and skills related to communication development.
Work independently or as part of a team in therapy sessions/groups as required by IEP or School.
Maintain communication with parents regarding treatment and progress, as well as outside medical and therapy services. Obtain releases and request pertinent records from those sources.
Work closely with the Director in regard to the policies and procedures required by the Board of Education and the student’s home school.
Current State of Illinois License for Speech & Language Pathologist.
Able to conduct speech and language assessments via team and individual evaluations.
Able to plan and conduct individual and group therapies.
Experience working with children 3 - 21 years.
Experience with a range of disabilities and delays including autism spectrum disorders
Ambulatory and able to bend; stoop; walk; run; reach; go up/down stairs easily; sit and play on floor; move, react, and stand quickly; and able to lift 50 lbs.
