ABOUT THE CHICAGO ACADEMY FOR THE ARTS
The Chicago Academy for the Arts http://chicagoacademyforthearts.org/ transforms emerging artists through a curriculum and culture which connect intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity to impart skills to lead and collaborate across diverse communities. The artistic and educational philosophy of the Academy is to equip talented, emerging artists with rigorous pre-professional training and a comprehensive college preparatory education so they achieve great artistic success and passionate contributions to the world as artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers – whatever their dreams become. Academy students develop a capacity for imagination that is broad, deep, and powerful, so they may expand the possibilities of their art and apply their mastery of key skills to any dream in life.
The Academy’s rigorous and comprehensive curriculum is taught by a talented faculty, in an intimate and nurturing environment, set in a culturally rich urban location, and with a deliberately socio-economically diverse student population. Our program and school design creates the conditions necessary to cultivate creativity, critical think...ing, risk-taking, the ability to learn adaptability, empathy, leadership, collaboration, communication, and character – all the characteristics and skills required to succeed as artists, thinkers, and doers who make an impact no matter what path they choose in life.
The Academy views diversity – socioeconomic and in thought – as a key engine in fostering the inventiveness, imagination and competitiveness integral to future-thinking individuals and organizations. For diversity across all sectors, the Academy ranks well above residential art conservatory programs and other Chicago-area independent schools. Needs-based scholarships are imperative to attracting and retaining the best and brightest emerging artists and to ensure a diversity of talent. Sixty-five percent of Academy families receive tuition assistance, which far exceeds the national average among comparable schools, and which reflects an essential part of the school’s core values. The average percentage of people of color at similar independent conservatory programs is 24% compared to over 40% at the Academy.
