Description of Position:
The Education Specialist will play an integral role in ICAH’s Education Department by coordinating For Youth Inquiry’s performances and workshops, and ICAH’s peer education workshops and youth leaders in schools and other community-based settings throughout the Chicago area.

For more than (3) three decades, the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health (ICAH) has worked in partnership with youth to advocate for sound policies and practices that promote a positive approach to adolescent sexual health and parenting. Currently, ICAH is a network of empowered youth and allied adults who transform public consciousness and increase the capacity of family, school, and healthcare systems to support the sexual health, rights, and identity of youth. We envision a world in which all young adults use their power to achieve health and well being in their lives and for their communities.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Coordinate and occasionally facilitate performances and workshop requests for youth on a wide range of sexual health, rights, and identities topics, including preparation of curriculum and training materials, communication with facilitators & participants, and reporting requirements.
Support peer education implementation and delivery by coordinating adult support and occasionally accompanying ICAH Peer Educators to workshops, preparing facilitators, conduct debriefing, and reflection post-facilitation.
When the Education Specialist facilitates in-school workshops or performance offerings, they will be paid at ICAH’s standard facilitator rate.
Outreach, Recruitment and Partnerships
Conduct outreach and marketing with schools, community-based organizations, and other youth-serving institutions to expand the organization’s reach.
Engage in follow-up with educators and education participants to provide technical assistance and support.
Data Management & Reporting
Deliver progress reports and other documentation, as required by ICAH supervisor and reporting requirements.
Curriculum & Material Development
Expand ICAH’s education offerings for youth by identifying gaps in topical areas, creating new curriculum and other training materials and updating current curriculum and training materials in partnership with the Education Manager.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
The Education Specialist reports directly to the Education Manager. This position is located within ICAH’s Education Department.
2-3 years experience in the field(s) of adolescent and sexual/reproductive health, sexuality education delivery and/or health education
2-3 years experience working with urban youth in a classroom or alternative setting.
1-2 years experience developing curriculum
A Bachelors degree in Public Health, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education or similar is required.
Some working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
Knowledge of and familiarity with Internet-based email applications is required.
ICAH expects that the Education Specialist split the 25 hours across at least 4 days per week to ensure timely response to training requests. The Education Specialist will also be required to attend select in-person meetings with staff.
This position requires some weekend & evening hours. Schedules will be negotiated accordingly.
