About the Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter
The Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter is home to boys and girls from newborn to age 18 through the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). This program provides a safe setting for children during their first days in America until a permanent setting can be established for them.
About the Case Manager Position
The Case Manager in the Unaccompanied Children Program, under the supervision of the Lead Case Manager, acts as an advocate for youth, supporting the youth in exercising their rights, choices, and responsibilities. The main role of the Case Manager is to ensure that each UC is safe and cared for, and is reunited with a suitable parent, guardian, or sponsor in the most expeditious manner possible. Position requires the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment. Case Manager is a grant Position related solely to the Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter as funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and any successor funding.
Ensure safety for all UC within each home.
Coordinate and handle an estimated case load of 8-10 at any given time.
Coordinate initial intake for each UC.
Schedule and confirm each UC has an initial medical evaluation within 48 hours of arrival.
Coordinate and assist the Clinician to assure the admission assessment and family tree are completed within 3 days of arrival.
Coordinate and assist Clinician to assure the psychosocial summary and individualized Service Plan (ISP) are completed within 7 days of arrival.
Manage reunification process for each UC.
Keep information updated in UC portal.
Coordinate the discharge and release of child to their sponsor.
Respond to client emergencies within or outside work hours.
Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Skills
Bilingual English/Spanish language competency required.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant behavioral/social sciences field.
2-4 years progressive experience in case management.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office and web-based databases.
Valid driver’s license.
Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods.
Required to lift/ move objects weighing in excess of 20 pounds.
Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.
Environment and Scheduling
Work is performed in designated program
Duties may involve contact with youth who have been traumatized.
Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary.
May be scheduled to work on weekends and/or holidays
