The mission of the Metropolitan Tenants Organization (MTO) is to educate, organize and empower tenants to have a voice in the decisions that affect the affordability and availability of safe, decent and accessible housing. Housing impacts a family’s health, access to work, and children’s education. Rental
housing plays the major role in filling this important need, especially for C...hicagoland’s low- and moderate-income residents. MTO works to educate tenants about their rights under the law and the housing remedies available to them.
Metropolitan Tenants Organization works on its mission through three primary programs:
Tenants Rights Hotline: MTO’s hotline provides renters with the resources and information they need to protect their housing rights.
Affordable Housing Preservation Program (AHPP): The vision behind the AHPP program is to organize people to work collectively to improve their home environment.
Healthy Homes Program (HHP): Works to educate renters about home-based health hazards such as lead based paint, mold, and pests can negatively impact your health and that of your family.
