YWCA Lake County (YWCALC) has a great opportunity to hire a full time Grant Writer. The ideal candidate will develop compelling proposals, reports, and other materials needed to communicate YWCALC’s impact and mission toward the goal of increasing the agency’s unrestricted and restricted revenues. S/he will engage in strategic discussions with the agency’s management team related to the development and submission of funding proposals and reports. Key responsibilities include:
Prospecting and Research - Lead the agency’s prospecting and grant research efforts to rate and identify potential private and public funding partners that fit YWCALC’s mission and core values
Grant Development and Management – Coordinate the agency’s overall grant development process, including: developing, writing and submitting grant proposals and reports to foundations and other grant-making organizations to increase the agency’s revenue and to build strong partnerships with private funders (foundations and corporations)
Funder Engagement and Stewardship - Support YWCALC’s efforts to engage and maintain healthy and productive relationships with grant funding partners through regular communications and updates
Conducts the full range of activities required to write, submit, and manage high-quality grant proposals, Letters of Intent (LOIs) and reports to private foundations, and corporate sources in a timely manner. Assist in writing portions of select public funding proposals and reports.
Performs thorough and diligent prospect research on foundations and corporations to identify, evaluate, rate and shortlist prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
Coordinates with Director, Resource Development and Management Team/Program Directors in vetting, rating and shortlisting of funder prospects to build a strong and robust grant pipeline.
Steward current grant funders to ensure that they are continuously engaged with YWCALC, providing them with regular agency and program updates as available and necessary (newsletters, program highlights, clients’ stories, agency events, etc.)
Using Kintera database and grant tracking calendar, manage accurate electronic and hard copy records of all public and private institutional donors.
Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent communication and editing skills, both written and oral; demonstrates ability to tailor grant proposals appropriately to meet funders’ requirements and funding priorities; exceptional attention to details; and ability to meet deadlines.
Private and public funder knowledge – familiarity with private and corporate foundation proposal cycles; ability to write clear, compelling and strategic grant proposals and reports; knowledge on how to structure programmatic objectives; and understanding on how to present organization and program budgets to funders.
Knowledge of grant-seeking trends, statistics and fundraising environments.
Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospecting and identification.
A high level of computer literacy required (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, other database applications)
Strong contributor in team environments.
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, and Communications or equivalent experience.
2 or more years of experience in grant writing within the nonprofit sector or equivalent experience.
Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work, prioritize and organize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Excellent analytical and research skills.
Delivers high quality work and makes sure that the responsibilities central to the role meet all requirements and expectations. Finishes tasks promptly and critically, and reviews work to ensure quality and accuracy.
