Reporting to the Director of Development Information Services, the Application Specialist coordinates and fulfills production requests for the Development Information Services Department as assigned, including data requests, data imports, reports, and other requests. S/he works with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) Advancement, Museum Development, Membership, and other departments in the Art Institute (AIC) and School of the Art Institute, to collect information about requests submitted by email, phone and in person to ensure the data and reports provided are accurate and meet the needs of the requestor. S/he communicates with individuals and departments regarding their production and reporting requests and facilitates the process to ensure that deadlines are met. The position is also responsible for the execution and dissemination of various scheduled reports and quality assurance and quality control measures including data auditing, validation, preprocessing and cleansing.
The Application Specialist is also responsible for assisting with the administration of applications including The Raiser’s Edge, PaperSave, Reporting Services, and other related systems, including maintaining users, tables, table values and other elements. This position is responsible for creative curriculum development around the use of the applications and systems. This includes developing modules, creating training documents, coordinating training schedules, preparing and organizing trainers, and delivering training to various communities and levels of end users.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design data structures and maintain integrity in the Raiser’s Edge database and other systems based on a thorough understanding of the structure of current databases and of the Institution’s various fundraising programs and their reporting needs.
Contribute to data integrity through auditing, validating, programmatic hygiene projects, assisting users with requested imports, and identifying patterns of errors to be addressed.
Develop, test, and provide reports in a timely manner in support of all programs within the Institution and maintain and enhance the reporting tools used to extract data from the databases and systems.
Creatively develop and deliver training schemes and all components, including modules, preparation, organization, user and internal documentation for system processes, procedures, and training.
Creates, updates and disseminates a group of various scheduled reports.Ensures accuracy of information distributed and meets deadlines for report dissemination.Available to answer questions or troubleshoot data or report problems.
Provide reactive and proactive application support, including thoughtful and proactive maintenance of users, tables, table values, and other data elements; train and assist staff with The Raiser’s Edge, PaperSave, Reporting Services, and other related systems’ use, policies, processes and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to data clean up, data input and other general office work.
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in information management or computer science, or comparable experience required.
Minimum three years of experience using The Raiser's Edge or other CRM systems.
Report writing experience using Crystal Reports and/or Microsoft Reporting Services preferred.
Experience in a service oriented role and environment.
Knowledge of business systems and software applications required.
Understanding of relational database systems required.
Knowledge of SQL and the ability to create, understand, and troubleshoot basic commands, statements and queries required.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel required.
Discretion with confidential information required.
Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment required.
