Purpose - the Volunteer coordinator is responsible for recruiting and managing NSV volunteers serving NSV members and individuals in the community. S/he ensures: the interests of the volunteers and those receiving volunteer services are properly served; NSV has well-trained volunteers to meet the requests for their services; and that volunteers are a positive reflection of NSV’s mission to serve older adults.
Reports to - Executive Director
Create volunteer position descriptions
Promote volunteerism to NSV members
Community outreach to find volunteers as well as individuals who may benefit from volunteer services
Screen (interviews, required background checks, etc.) and match volunteers to organizational needs and opportunities
Create and update volunteer program materials (policies and procedures, applications, volunteer agreements, orientation handbook, training materials)
Train and orient volunteers
Schedule and supervise volunteers
Communicate with existing volunteers to keep informed and provide feedback
Communicate with members and volunteers to ensure satisfaction with volunteer experience
Communicate with individuals receiving volunteer services to confirm: their understanding of volunteer’s responsibilities; competent delivery of service; and their adherence to NSV’s expectations
Assess organizational need and capacity for volunteers
Liaise with community organizations and leaders to share ideas, need for volunteers and, as appropriate, coordinate activities
Database management and tracking of volunteer statistics
Work with the Volunteer Committee to advance the organization’s volunteer program

Proven experience organizing, managing and working with groups
Experience in volunteering
Experience in recruiting through various channels
Experience working with older adults
Working knowledge of computer-based management systems and databases.
Able to communicate effectively with diverse people

North Shore Village is a membership organization of older adults dedicated to helping seniors age in their community through active social networks, volunteer assistance, educational/informational/cultural events and activities, and connections to the community.
The organization has about 250 members living in a number of North Shore communities. These communities include: Evanston, Skokie, Wil...mette, Rogers Park (in Chicago), Wilmette, Glenview, Lincolnwood and Northbrook. Members pay annual dues to participate in NSV activities and receive volunteer assistance if needed.
Mather LifeWays has supported NSV since it opened in 2009. NSV is located in Mather's corporate office at 1603 Orrington Avenue, #1800 in downtown Evanston.
