Under the supervision of the Director, Teen Engagement Initiative, the Teen Engagement Specialist will serve as an ambassador to teens and families in Greater Metropolitan Chicago, as part of Springboard, JUF’s Community Teen Engagement Initiative. The Teen Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that will facilitate teen engagement in the vibrant landscape of programs available to teens in the Chicagoland area. This person will help teens and their parents to identify the organizations and programs that best fit their interests, will work collaboratively with Springboard partners and JUF staff, and will support teen engagement in a variety of capacities, including recruiting for and staffing existing programs, running short-term internships and leadership programs, and supporting city-wide programs for teens, professionals and parents. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about the organizations and programs available to Chicago teens and able to leverage personal experiences to support teen engagement.
Act as the first point of contact for information and referral for teens and their parents regarding engagement opportunities in the Chicago Jewish community.
Participate in the development of promotional campaigns raising awareness about programs available to Jewish teens in Chicago and encouraging Jewish teens to take advantage of available programs.
Managing and tracking content and marketing for Springboard programs and community events.
Represent the project by developing strong working relationships with colleagues in Jewish education and youth programs in, and around, Chicago, as well as congregational and organizations professional and lay leadership, to facilitate their participation in the Jewish Teen Engagement Initiative.
Staff immersive programs for teens (including Ta’am Yisrael, spring break experiences and serve as senior-level staff at one of the Midwest Jewish Overnight Camps or another youth-serving organization over the summer as appropriate), and follow-up on relationships established during those programs throughout the year.
Assist in building the comprehensive database of Jewish teens in greater metropolitan Chicago, and in maintaining the database for communications and tracking over time.
Serve as liaison to Jewish educators, supporting their involvement in Springboard Professional Development programs and encouraging their participation.
Assist in the execution of the long term evaluation of the impact of the Teen Engagement Initiative.
Directly support JUF campaign integration on an ongoing basis in addition to mandatory campaign-related activities.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
2+ years of experience working in an office environment (Jewish teen program development, summer camp or Jewish education preferred but not necessary).
Knowledge of, passion for, and/or an authentic personal connection to the relevant issues of Jewish communal life and familiarity with the Jewish calendar.
Marketing proficiency, affinity for social media platforms and the ability to use social media to promote programs.
Experience with Microsoft Office required, Salesforce or other database system preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
A dynamic and outgoing personality with the ability to build relationships with a variety of different audiences and ages.
Self-motivated with a willingness to take initiative.
Demonstrated organizational skills, with attention to detail and proven ability to fill and manage a complex schedule requiring extensive local travel.
An appreciation for the diversity of Jewish identity expression and practice.
Knowledge of Jewish community, culture, heritage, traditions and Jewish Communal Services.
