The Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each students listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills fundamental to effective oral and written communication and literate citizenship; implements the curriculum established by YCCS which is designed to meet the established competency based standards; develops lesson plans in accordance with the curriculum with modifications and differentiation to address the needs of all students; plans a unit of study integrating the use of technology and project-based learning; creates engaging lessons that develop student critical thinking and problem solving skills; continually assesses student progress toward mastery of standards; keeps students and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback, and weekly assessments; participates in school-wide professional development; attends designated school functions outside of school hours; and; performs additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and a Professional Educator’s license with Secondary endorsement
Must have passed Basic Skills test and Subject Matter test
Must maintain current Illinois Certification with subject area endorsement
Must demonstrate the experience, beliefs, attitude and awareness that indicate cultural sensitivity to the student population served
Provide evidence of continuing professional growth
Ability to partner with students individually, in family or in group, to help mobilize resources and inner capacity to address barriers to their success
Knowledge of principles and practices of staff, school, and organizational development
YCCS serves At-Risk Students and High School dropouts who are ages 16 - 21 and who have been under-served and/or disconnected from traditional education.
YCCS offers a diversified portfolio of alternative education "choice" campuses for Off-Track Students and Out-of-School Youth that provide multiple pathways to graduation.
