CSS is seeking a dynamic Finance professional to join our team as a Part-time Accountant. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Under the general direction of the CFO, the part-time staff accountant is responsible for the preparation of semi-monthly payroll for hourly employees. This position also plays a supportive role in the general accounting function; including monthly close activities, account reconciliation and financial reporting.
This role must be proficient in navigating an automated accounting system and other software applications to support efficient and effective financial reporting and analysis. This position applies accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices to a variety of accounting transactions.
The part-time staff accountant is responsible for timely and precise preparation of semi-monthly payroll for approximately 70 hourly employees.
For the purposes of billing, works closely with program coordinators to ensure the timely submission of timesheets, accurate calculation of hours worked and appropriate approvals.
Updates payroll records for changes to exemptions, direct deposits, deductions, including initial set-up of new hires.
Prepares payroll- related journal entries and reporting requests.
Reconciles payroll expenses to the IRS Form 941.
Resolves payroll discrepancies by analyzing data.
Address issues and questions from employees regarding payroll.
Maintains payroll operations by following organizational policies and procedures.
Maintains the security and confidentiality of employee records.
Plays a role in the monthly close process including, but, not limited to the preparation of monthly journal entries and recognition of monthly cash receipts for the general operating account.
Performs general ledger account analysis and reconciles assigned accounts.
Assists the Director of Accounting & Finance with monthly cash receipt applications against the accounts receivable aging for payments from Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS).
Assists with the monthly bank reconciliation process for all cash accounts.
Assists in the year-end audit process.
Performs other assigned duties.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or 5+ years of relevant experience.
Not for profit experience is preferred with experience using Blackbaud Financial Edge
Prefers experience with intellectual / developmental disabilities (I/DD) or mental health
