The Breakthrough Youth Network (BYN) aims to overcome the forces of poverty and see our students become caring and responsible community members who transform East Garfield Park into a place where success becomes the norm and families prosper. Breakthrough’s after-school program focuses on teaching elementary school students essential math and literacy skills in the Nettie Bailey After School Achievement Program (NBSAP).
The Classroom Assistant’s responsibilities includes but is not limited to:
Attend daily BYN huddle
Assist in teaching classes for the students in the NBSAP
Assist with managing student behavior
Work collaboratively with Associate Director to plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom strategies
Be available to be a substitute teacher with a class of students on an as needed basis
Assist with data entry in Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database
Assist with student transportation and building clean up
Assist with special events, such as: Spring break programs, field trips, Awards Night, etc.

Minimum of Associates degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred in elementary education or in any field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to elementary education, with 2-3 experience teaching school-age children.
