Who We Are: Brave Space Alliance is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ+ individuals on the South and West sides of the city. We strive to empower, embolden, and educate each other through mutual aid, knowledge-sharing, and the creation of community-sourced resources as we build toward the liberation of all oppressed peoples.
We are searching for a full-time Licensed Social Worker (LCSW) to lead and oversee our behavioral health program at Brave Space Alliance. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 7 years of experience as the Behavioral Health Manager, delivering comprehensive mental health services to our LGBTQ+ clients. The successful candidate will bring experience in team management and partnership development, as well as a strong background in case management.

Reports To: Sr. Director of Programs
Responsibilities:
- At all times, confidentiality must be maintained according to the Illinois Mental Health Code and Confidentiality Act.
- Coordinates the daily operations for assigned staff. This includes scheduling, staffing, problem-solving, and supervision.
- Serves as initial contact for customer service complaints and assures follow-up is completed.
- Responsible for taking part in required in-service training and community training seminars at the discretion of the Director.
- Assists in leading program retention initiatives.
- Assists the director in conducting monthly staff meetings.
- Pursue and keep abreast of current trends, methods, and techniques in case management and counseling.
- Attend & complete agency training as required and be prepared to present information from outside training to staff.
- Participate in/attend committee or staff meetings as applicable.
- Maintain a professional image and role as a representative of Brave Space Alliance.
- Inform the supervisor of any condition that impacts the safety and well-being of clients served.
- Seek assistance as necessary to mitigate risk and seek out supervision as needed.
- Attend individual supervision with a supervisor at a scheduled time weekly to review and report on progress, productivity, and concerns.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability with changes to program needs and schedule as the need arises.
- Participates in professional growth & development and ensures current knowledge of evidence-based research and practice.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in mental health
- Assist in overseeing mental health staff in accordance to established standard
- Works on routine program-based projects as assigned by the Director
- Coordinates and ensures timely patient placement within the program
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Understanding of Mental Health and Behavioral Disorders: It is critical to have a comprehensive knowledge of mental health conditions, treatments, and emerging professional insights.
- Patient-Centered Approach:P Behavioral health managers work closely with patients. They conduct intake interviews, gather information, and recommend therapeutic interventions. Effective listening and communication are essential.
- Crisis Intervention and Risk Assessment: Managers must handle crisis situations, monitor patient progress, and administer risk assessments.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Working effectively with other professionals and coordinating care across teams is vital.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Managers need to address complex cases and find effective solutions.
- Compassion and Empathy: A caring and empathetic approach helps build patient trust.
- Verbal and Written Communication: Clear communication is essential for documenting cases and collaborating with colleagues.
- Multi-Tasking Abilities: Managers often handle multiple cases simultaneously.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- 5 to 7 years of professional experience
- Case Management Experience
- Knowledge of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health
- Familiarity with continuum of care and assessment and intervention skills
