Girls on the Run-Chicago (GOTRC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. More than just a running program, GOTRC uses a cutting edge curriculum that addresses the unique developmental stages of over 10,000 8-14 year old girls annually. The fun, innovative program combines training for a 5k event with interactive lessons that encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development.
Girls on the Run-Chicago is seeking an energetic intern to assist with the Spring 2018 season. We are looking for support in managing program volunteers and improving volunteer involvement, engaging the community, and assistance with producing our three end of season 5ks; Saturday, May 12, Saturday, May 19, and Saturday, June 2. A successful candidate will have some type of event planning experience, whether in sports, community, or non-profit, etc. This is an unpaid position which requires a minimum two days per week in the office with a total of 10-16 hrs. each week and lasts until Mid-June.
Coach planning and training: Organize and allocate materials to each coach training location. Compose and send coach training information communications to new coaches. Order coach training materials as needed. Input coach training attendance and track other coach requirements.
Volunteer support and improvement: Create webinars for volunteer training. Track and support Program Support Committee involvement. Assign community volunteers to sites in need.
Outreach: Research and reach out to community centers, universities, organizations, and companies to recruit new community coaches in targeted areas. Recruitment strategies include online research, tabling at events, giving presentations with GOTRC staff, and reaching out via phone calls, and emails.
5k support: Inventory 5k supplies and order as needed, collaborate with the Communications Department on external 5k communications, organize Packet Pick-Up events, attend the 5ks and serve in a key event staff role, and assist with basic 5k-specific tasks such as responding to questions regarding 5k registration, assisting with data entry and processing, and helping to plan Production Meetings and PowerPoints.
Knowledge about, and enthusiasm towards, GOTR and girl empowerment
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Strong computer skills, including Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and PowerPoint
The desire to collaborate and build relationships, familiarity with Chicagoland geography a bonus
Ability to travel within assigned territory
Capacity to maintain the confidentiality of all GOTRC-related information
Ability to lift and carry up to 50
