Grow Your Own Illinois is looking for a responsible, compassionate, self-starter who is passionate about social justice and public education to serve as the program’s Academic Coordinator. This full-time position will split time between the GYO IL office in Pilsen and Northeastern Illinois University, and will work closely with both the GYO Program Director and the NEIU Faculty Liaison.
Job Duties Will Include:
Primary duties include providing academic support and coordination to all GYO candidates as they complete their teacher preparation program. This position will have a presence on the NEIU campus, but will also be responsible for candidates who attend other colleges or universities. The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for monthly reporting and attending monthly team and cohort meetings.
Meet regularly with GYO candidates to assist them through their progression in the program, including holding regular office hours on campus.
Assist students in navigating higher education institutions and act as an advocate and support to candidates.
Be familiar with and make available all university resources to candidates.
Manage candidate tutoring and test preparation needs and allocation.
Coordinate and attend monthly GYO cohort meetings.
In collaboration with colleagues, document student success for marketing and outreach.
Assist in the development and execution of professional development programming for GYO graduates.
Maintain and update candidate and graduate database.
Prepare reports and aggregate data as necessary.
Provide regular updates to colleagues on student progress.
Advance GYO Institutionalization at Universities
Maintain relationships with key partners across universities.
Develop GYO advocates and supporters across universities.
Minimum 3 years experience working with and supporting with students in a higher education setting
Bachelor’s degree or appropriate combination of education and relevant experience
Outstanding organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly developed problem-solving skills with emphasis on attention to detail and follow through
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
Must work well as part of a team and independently
Experience working with individuals from diverse communities
Additional Salary Information: This is a 9 month grant funded position with the possibility of extension. The salary is $50,000 with an additional stipend for health insurance and other benefits. The position is eligible for three weeks of vacation and 12 sick days.
