SUMMARY- the Doula candidate must possess a positive and empathetic personality, while being adaptable and organized. The focus of the work is to provide the emotional and physical support to mothers during the prenatal, labor, and post-partum periods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan home based services that will maintain supportive relationships with the mother/family while providing information directed toward identified goals (birth plan.)
Provide direct service to pregnant participant and family during labor and delivery at the hospital by assisting in communication between participant and caregiver as well as providing measures of comfort during and prior to the birth process.
Submit documentation and data collection in accordance with established timelines regarding prenatal, intra-partum, and post-partum activities.
Provide assistance in overcoming barriers (transportation, housing, food…etc.) by referring for collateral services as needed.
Administer screening and assessments with child and family as required by program.
Facilitate prenatal support groups utilizing a group curriculum that focuses on prenatal education, mother-infant relationships and breastfeeding.
Participate in supervision and trainings as required.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Care Coordination-Individuals in this position may have a leadership or shared role in coordination care for clients within the program and a specific geographic area.
Assist with advocacy and coordinating services between the local hospitals, clinics, NICU medical staff and NICU social workers. Collaborating with mental health services and pediatrician.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
B.A./ B.S. degree in social/human services, psychology or related field preferred; minimum of high school degree required, and Doula trained, preferred.
