Step Up is a national nonprofit membership organization propelling girls living or going to school in under-resourced communities to fulfill their potential by empowering them to become confident, college-bound, career-focused, and ready to join the next generation of professional women. We work with teen girls in our partner high schools to deliver a robust curriculum of after-school, weekend, and summer activities. Step up leverages our professional women members who give back as donors, mentors and volunteers to make our local communities and the Step Up programs a success. Step Up is currently serving 1,400 girls annually nationwide. We are in the midst of executing on an exciting strategic plan focused on scaling our impact dramatically, with the goal of having served 8,000 girls nationally in five cities by 2020.

What you’ll do:
As a facilitator you will be responsible for recruiting 60 girls and facilitating two Step Up programs at 1-2 schools. You will be responsible for implementing both Step Up’s Confidence Curriculum and College & Career Readiness Curriculum. As the point facilitator at each school, you will be responsible for reaching recruitment, enrollment, attendance and ensuring teens are gaining skills through our programs. Furthermore, you will participate in planning and/or executing a variety of teen and member events throughout the year.
How you’ll do it:
Effective School Relationships:
Develop and maintain a positive presence and relationship with key school personnel, ensuring Step Up programming schedules are supported.
Identify, create, and use communication outlets and tools that will bring awareness to Step Up’s program and engage teen participation.
Secure space and time for Step Up recruitment, programming, and special events.
Assist Step Up teens with researching and selecting post-high school education and career options, completing college applications and applying for/interviews for summer internships.
Teen Recruitment and Engagement:
Reach out to enrolled teens, individually, at least once a week and maintain regular contact with each participant’s parent/guardian.
Coordinate teen transportation to sessions or special events and/or transport program participants, as needed.
Create a safe space for Step Up teens that allows them to build their confidence, create trusting and nurturing relationships with their peers and learn important skills to support their journey through college and career.
Teach up to three daytime and/or after school sessions per week, on site at Step Up partner schools.
Develop engaging, teen-centric activities for each session that are aligned to Step Up’s curriculum guide and social and emotional learning framework.
Attend weekly meetings and assist with planning/leading three conferences per year, and once a month Saturday Young Luminaries sessions.
Achieve learning and growth objectives for Step Up teens through coaching, mentoring, and scaffolding.
Attend events as assigned
Support mentor orientation and placement/matching with teens for programs, conferences, and events.
Participate in member event planning, to include teen attendance, teen participation, networking, and public speaking opportunities.
Other Administrative Duties as Assigned
Who you are:
You are committed to Step Up’s mission and are passionate about fully engaging and empowering all women and girls as agents of a just and prosperous society.
You have a Bachelor’s Degree in liberal arts, youth development, secondary education, social sciences, or social work.
You are preferably bilingual in English and Spanish.
Youth Development Experience
You have a minimum of two years of experience facilitating structured, curriculum-guided activities for teens with a variety of backgrounds and varying levels of emotional profiles and dispositions, living or attending school in under-resourced communities.
You have solid knowledge of adolescent developmental phases, have practiced positive and constructive approaches to youth development, and are familiar with best practices in social and emotional learning (SEL) programs.
You value and have experience creating safe and brave spaces that promotes inclusion, belonging, and empathy.
You have experience in developing and adapting objective-driven and curriculum-aligned lesson plans that creatively engage teens, while using outcome data to improve your inputs and implementation.
You have experience working at and recruiting teen involvement in a school or similar environment.
General Professional Experience
You are an excellent time manager with strong prioritization and organization skills.
You are a goal-driven, outcome-based and solution-oriented team player who can provide and receive constructive feedback, and who both promotes and practices a growth mindset.
You have a working knowledge of Salesforce and are highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
You are capable of traveling within the city, using a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license and insurance or other reliable forms of transportation.
You are available to work semi-regular Saturday and evening hours, and are able to accompany large groups of teens on field trips, college visits, or other event
Physical and Other Demands:
Some extended periods at computer
Moderate lifting and transporting of materials for programming and events
Can independently travel to North Lawndale and Little Village neighborhoods and high schools
