The Strategic Management Society, a membership-based association providing services to a mostly scholarly, international constituency, is looking for an individual to join its Executive Office team.
The Managing Editor is primarily responsible for managing the growing manuscript review and pre-production workflows for the Global Strategy Journal (GSJ) and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal (SEJ). The Managing Editor works in close cooperation with the journal editors and publisher to advance the organization’s scholarly publishing program. The role requires active participation in the further development and implementation of the journals’ communication and social media efforts.
Independently manage a comprehensive array of pre- and post-publication editorial processes for peer reviewed scholarly journals with volunteer editorial leadership.
Act as first point of contact and liaison with Editors, Reviewers, Production Editors and Journal Publishing Managers to ensure the smooth running of the journals from submission of content to final publication.
Ensure adherence to established best practices, as identified by journal policies and industry organizations, such as COPE, and ensure completion of manuscripts with all correct paperwork.
Generate and/or coordinate promotion of the journals and their content, including rich media, for social media, website, newsletters, and other outlets.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills Required:
3-5 years of experience in successfully working in an academically focused environment demonstrating enthusiasm, knowledge, and understanding of scholarly publishing.
Excellent diplomacy, discretion, and customer service skills.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative; manage multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously; high degree of attention to detail; commitment to excellence in all aspects of work.
Ability to effectively establish relationships and collaborate on projects with a diverse group of volunteers, ability to professionally communicate with internationally renowned scholars, consultants, and business practitioners.
Experience with inter-cultural communication, familiarity in working with international constituencies and demonstrated ability to perform in diverse cultures and business environments.
Comfortable working in a small, closely-knit office without a lot of formal structure.
Familiarity with submission/peer review systems, such as ScholarOne, database management, website content management, and the professional use of social media platforms.
Bachelor’s degree required.
This position is part-time and includes a full benefits package including 24 days of paid vacation.
Travel: Up to three times a year; Domestic and International locations.
