Family Shelter Service has provided help and hope for victims of domestic violence and their children for over 40 years. We are looking to hire an experienced “hands-on” resale professional to oversee and manage all operations of our established resale shops in Naperville and Westmont with an eye to growing our operations in the coming years. Net sales of our resale operations totaled nearly $300,000 last fiscal year. We have cultivated a loyal customer base and a solid reputation throughout DuPage County for premier resale shops.
Our shops provide income for our vital programs including shelter, counseling and advocacy for the victims of domestic violence and their children. In addition, clothing and household items are provided to our clients at no cost to support their path to independence.
The ideal candidate for this position is a seasoned resale shop manager who is excited by the opportunity to assume the leadership of two successful shops and a willingness to work with our team to grow our reach in DuPage County.
The Manager of Resale Operations reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the management and profitability of Second Chance Resale Shop operations.
Ensures excellent customer service to donors, patrons and clients; maintains a clean, pleasant and welcoming environment in the shops.
Participates in the development of store budgets and is responsible for meeting revenues, as projected; submits weekly financial reports from both shops; collaborates with finance department.
Fosters community awareness of the shops; establishes and maintains contacts within the community, including businesses, organizations and faith communities that provide donations or volunteers for the resale shops.
Develops new corporate partners for donations of overstock and out-of-season items.
Pursues opportunities to expand resale operations, strategies to drive traffic to stores, and innovative client services.
Serves as liaison to the property management company.
Hires, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates resale staff.
Works closely with and motivates volunteer workers. Assigns appropriate staff to train and manage volunteers, including daily supervision and work schedules.
Manages, processes and attractively displays resale inventory coming into the stores.
Collaborates with the Development Marketing Team to develop a strategy for marketing the shops including point-of-sale, social media, print, and on-line channels.
Gathers information and submits monthly reports on volunteer and community service hours, client vouchers, and customer coupon usage.
Works with the Volunteer Coordinator to plan and implement scheduled special volunteer appreciation event(s) and ensures that community group volunteer participation is successfully organized, implemented and supervised.
Picks-up or arranges for the pick-up of selected special donations from other businesses, organizations and faith communities.
Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum 5 years successful retail experience preferably as a store manager; resale experience a plus
Demonstrated leadership and innovative problem solving abilities
Excellent merchandizing skills
Attention to detail, particularly in financial tracking and reporting
Experience managing volunteers preferred
Capability to assist in creating and implementing various marketing strategies, including familiarity with Facebook
Willingness to speak publicly throughout the community about Family Shelter Service and the shops
Ability to respond appropriately to a variety of situations, function independently and demonstrate flexibility, tact, good judgment and commitment to teamwork
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Willing to work varied hours including some evenings and weekends
Able to lift and carry inventory weighing 25 pounds and stand for extended periods of time
Must have privately owned vehicle, valid driver’s license, good driving record and liability insurance
