Rush University Medical Center (Rush) has served as the initiator and incubator for WESTSIDE UNITED, an ambitious new initiative with a holistic, multi-sector approach to health improvement that engages health institutions, community-based organizations, residents, government agencies, and the Chicago business and civic community. WESTSIDE UNITED has made great strides in building partnerships, mobilizing institutions around collective goals, and developing trust with the community. Rush seeks a dynamic leader that will help formalize governance, staffing, external relations, programming and funding support for WESTSIDE UNITED as it moves from strategy/vision to implementation.
Governance - The governance framework for WESTSIDE UNITED will include: (1) An Executive Leadership Committee, tasked with financial oversight for the entire Collaborative; (2) the West Side Anchor Committee, tasked with developing/implementing institution driven economic development projects; (3) the Population Health Committee, tasked with developing/implementing patient care initiatives; and (4) the Community Steering Committee, tasked with developing/implementing community-driven initiatives. The Consultant will provide support, oversight, engagement and thought leadership for each committee.
Staffing and Administration – The Director will hire, train and manage 2 to 4 program managers to support the work of the WESTSIDE UNITED. The Consultant will have fiscal responsibilities, including creating, and managing budgets for the WESTSIDE UNITED. The Director will support the development of communications materials and plans for the WESTSIDE UNITED.
Programming – The Director will be responsible for the management, supervision and evaluation of all programs and initiatives of the Collaborative. S/he will analyze trends across programs and initiatives, identifying issues and developing and recommending solutions to the various committees.
External Relations - The Director will be the “face” of the WESTSIDE UNITED, which includes developing and maintaining external partnerships across institutions, community-based organizations, residents and other stakeholders. The Director will participate in institutional, community and other meetings as necessary to represent the WESTSIDE UNITED’s interests.
Funding- In partnership with the Executive Leadership Committee, the Director will identify, steward and support fundraising opportunities for the WESTSIDE UNITED.
Bachelor’s degree required, MA preferred
At least 10 years of experience with three of those years in a team management role
Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, and selecting and successfully operationalizing new programs
Strong project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth
Experience having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group
Experience working with multiple stakeholders with diverse perspectives, needs and levels of engagement
Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details
Experience working with diverse populations
