The Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance (GPCA) is a community oriented non-profit organization involved in a unique partnership with the Chicago Park District and its historic plant conservatory. Primary responsibilities are to 1) greet and assist all visitors entering the Conservatory; 2) invite visitors to make a voluntary contribution; 3) keep track of visitor attendance; answer Chicago Park District and Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance phone lines.
Greet all visitors with a smile and a hello, welcoming them to the Conservatory
Invite visitors to make a voluntary contribution;
Answer any visitor questions, searching out an answer if you don’t know the answer;
Direct guests arriving at the Conservatory for meetings or events to their destination, using the calendars and program information provided or by contacting other staff for more information;
Offer maps, brochures, scavenger hunts, etc. to visitors;
Assist with requests from visitors for wheelchairs;
Report any security issues or visitors’ medical issues to Security staff and supervisor Perform other duties as requested.
School and Group Trip Check-In
Greet school and other groups in welcoming manner;
Provide group leaders with sign-in sheet to register their groups;
Handle any issues in the lobby when large groups are present;
Notify School Program Coordinator when groups arrive, or of any issues with groups.
Answer Conservatory phone courteously and answer any questions from callers, directing them to other staff as necessary
Answer Alliance phone courteously, answering any general questions, and transferring callers to other staff as requested or as necessary
Keep phone ringers on at all times and answer all calls when not helping visitors in the Conservatory
Call Alliance and Park District staff to let them know when a guest of theirs arrives
Please note: this position will require working Saturday and/or Sunday, as well as some holidays.
Ideal candidate will enjoy and excel at direct service and customer service. Ideal candidate will be literate in Microsoft Office software. College students preferred.
Ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and have strong oral communication skills. Experience working in a museum or park setting is highly desirable. Bilingual desired.
The Visitor Services Assistant is a part-time position. No healthcare benefits are offered with this position.
