Leads efforts to secure funding from corporations and foundations by managing reporting and relationships with existing funders; identifying/vetting and soliciting new funding sources; and assuring that grant compliance requirements are met.
Creates powerful, customized and targeted letters of inquiry, grant proposals and supporting materials.
Responsible for successful management of a robust grant funding portfolio, to easily meet deadlines and internal process requirements, including efficient, timely prospecting, vetting, decision-making, submission, cultivating, coordinating and reporting/stewardship.
Identifies and researches corporate, foundation (including corporate, private and family), and other funding opportunities that align with the strategic goals and vision of the Agency and ensures a continued pipeline of grant prospects to achieve a continuous and growing revenue stream from these sources.
Develops an annual outreach plan along with a calendar of applications, estimated revenues, reporting, and other key dates to ensure timely completion and submission of applications and reports.
Works with development staff to secure foundation and corporate support for the Agency's annual benefit, and develops other corporate sponsorship opportunities to underwrite key the Agency's activities and events.
Updates and maintains database (Salesforce) with information on all outreach to corporate and foundation funders and prospects, alongside hard copy file records.
Uses giving data to create detailed monthly reporting on grant submission activity, trends and progress-to-goals; make strategic recommendations based on data.
Works with the marketing staff to ensure appropriate PR and recognition are provided to corporate and foundation partners.
Attends meetings of project teams, funders/potential funders and partnering organizations as necessary.
Participates in the development of short-term and long-term development planning.
Assists in managing and cultivating relationships with external funders.
Assists with other fundraising and outreach projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills; able to successfully manage a large portfolio in advance of multiple deadlines.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, including the ability to convey seemingly complex projects in a compelling, succinct, and persuasive manner. Ability to identify and articulate specific organizational needs, which can be expressed as funding priorities.
Knowledge of grant application processes as well as the principles and practices of grant preparation and administration; familiarity with community-based social services programs a plus.
Knowledge of Chicago’s philanthropic community and understanding of current funding trends.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast changing, deadline-driven environment, with ability to plan, take initiative, prioritize tasks independently, and manage multiple projects and deadlines without losing attention to detail.
Relationship-oriented; team player with high levels of enthusiasm and personal and professional integrity.
Display sensitivity to the cultural diversity of Agency's service populations.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
A minimum of three years’ experience in grant writing/grant management or business writing; understands “the customer”, principles of targeted marketing and donor engagement; experience in the nonprofit sector highly valued.
Applicant with significant, current Chicago corporate and foundation relationships and proven track record of grant writing success preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite required.
Experience with Salesforce fundraising program preferred but not required; experience with technology, on-line platforms, marketing programs or other specialized programs preferred.
