Arabella Advisors seeks a socially engaged nonprofit accounting professional to help launch and manage innovative social sector projects in direct collaboration with our clients. This role sits within the Managed Organizations, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) group and works closely with Senior Financial Analysts and Managers, FP&A. The Grants Accountant will assist with the preparation and review of financial reports to donors, budget preparation for projects, and provide ad hoc guidance to projects on basic nonprofit accounting best practices and operations. Accounting proficiency is just as important as communication skills in this role. In addition to having a firm grasp on nonprofit accounting best practices and financial reporting, you’ll work closely with FP&A teammates and our internal account teams, breaking down and translating financial information into easily understood language. The ideal candidate will work well collaboratively and independently to achieve goals. Support FP&A team by preparing and/or conducting preliminary review of donor reports and other financial deliverables for funder clients
Maintain templates and other Excel-based tools to assist internal account teams and external clients with budget preparation, lobbying assessments, personnel allocations and other financial components of reports to funders
Work closely with FP&A teammates in implementing processes to ensure proper record keeping and document retention to add efficiency and audit readiness to the budgeting and donor reporting processes
Provide ad hoc guidance to internal non-financial staff on basic nonprofit accounting concerns and practices
Support the FP&A team as needed with preparation for project and external financial audits
Responsible for organizing and maintaining FP&A team’s shared intranet documents, and resource library

About Arabella's Managed Organizations Team
Arabella Advisors provides operations and management support to multiple nonprofit organizations, including the New Venture Fund, the Windward Fund, and the Hopewell Fund—all 501(c)(3) public charities—and the Sixteen Thirty Fund, a 501(c)(4).These managed organizations house new and innovative public interest projects and nonprofits, as well as coordinate collaborative initiatives between donors and administer grants programs. This type of structure is commonly referred to as fiscal sponsorship, and candidates are highly encouraged to research fiscal sponsorship prior to a first interview. The managed organizations provide support to a diverse range of projects, including many focused on conservation, global health and civic engagement.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:
Approximately two to five years of professional accounting experience, with two of those years in grant reporting experience in a charitable nonprofit setting
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required in accounting, finance, or related field
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) nonprofit finance and accounting best practices
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask and focus on multiple compliance and financial priorities simultaneously
Ability to operate successfully within high activity work environments
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Proficiency with Excel
Other highly preferred skills:
Experience with private foundation grants
Comfortable with providing basic accounting assistance to engaged programmatic staff who possess limited financial competency
Exposure to Salesforce and Great Plains
