The Immigration Organizer for Enlace Chicago will utilize strategic and grassroots community building and organizing to engage Little Village leaders, community members, partners, and stakeholders to build power and help improve the quality of life for Little Village residents. Along with the rest of the Organizing and Advocacy Team, the Immigration Organizer will work with leaders to inform, create and execute campaigns, actions, events, trainings, etc.

Accountable to: Enlace Leadership Team
Communicates with: Organizing and Advocacy Team, Enlace staff
Informs: Enlace staff, Little Village leaders, community partners and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Constantly building and maintaining relationship:
Build relationships with current and emerging Little Village and Enlace leaders via one on ones, community gatherings, school events, door knocking, etc., and identify self-interest and issue areas.
Engage, develop, activate and track leaders and community members:
Identify, recruit, track and develop Enlace Chicago leaders;
Help train and lead in the Enlace Leadership Academy for emerging Little Village leaders with support from the organizing team and key leaders;
Assure action teams are meeting regularly and active, facilitate action teams;
Work to engage members and leaders for actions and organization-wide events;
Manage member data tracking and communications;
Helping create and execute leader Informed Campaigns:
Assist leaders with creating and running local campaigns as they relate to immigration and the intersection of immigration and violence prevention (example: the gang database).
Facilitate the involvement of leaders in federal, city, county, and statewide campaigns:
Assist leaders in identifying what federal, city, county and statewide campaigns or advocacy efforts are priorities for Little Village community residents.
Facilitate the participation of leaders in such campaigns or advocacy efforts.
Represent Enlace at tables and coalitions focused on immigration legislation, or the intersection between immigration and violence prevention.
Other organizational duties:
Maintain working knowledge of issue areas addressed by Enlace Chicago; with a focus on immigration and violence prevention;
Support organizational development goals.
Supervise part time/temporary staff and volunteers as needed.
Other duties as assigned
We seek an individual with experience living or working in Little Village;
Experience with and knowledge of immigration policies, legislation, and current political climate at all levels of government required;
Bilingual in English and Spanish a must;
Three years minimum of experience in leadership development and community organizing, legislative advocacy campaigns, with some formal training preferred;
Experience and ease in facilitating meetings and workshops, trainings;
Knowledge of the legislative and public policy processes at the local, state or federal levels;
A passion for social justice and working at the root cause of problems;
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred;
Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends;
Demonstrated ability to build relationships, work in a collaborative fashion, and with a proven ability to listen, understand, and develop leadership of diverse constituents.
