The Mortgage Counselor is responsible for counseling clients to the best outcomes in the Foreclosure Prevention Counseling program and for ensuring compliance with funder requirements and national best practices in the Foreclosure Prevention Program. (85% of position time)
Assist in outreach activities away from the office in neighborhoods with high concentrations of mortgage delinquencies to promote the PICB Foreclosure Prevention Program with a goal to encourage early action and educate the public about foreclosure rescue scams. Organize volunteers to assist with outreach activities. (15% of position time)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide one-on-one Foreclosure Prevention Counseling to clients (face-to-face or via telephone)
Provide budget and credit counseling
√ Negotiate solutions for clients with mortgage lenders and loan servicers
√ Conduct regular follow-up with mortgage lenders and loan servicers to ensure attention to client cases √ Assist clients and legal services providers with respect to mandatory settlement conferences in court
√ Refer clients to legal services, job placement and social services
Track and meet program outcomes and ensure program compliance
√ Participate in outreach and obtain marketing services as required by grants
√ Assure accuracy of data input into client tracking database
√ Keep clear, organized files

While performing the functions of the job, the Mortgage Counselor will work mostly in an office setting at a desk, with some out-of-office duties, including special presentations and community meetings. The Mortgage Counselor will work a variable schedule totaling approximately 35 hours per work week, and on occasion will be required to attend events related to the position after work hours and on weekends. QUALIFICATION, CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:
Min of Two-year degree from an accredited college or university and or Job experience
On-the-job experience in mortgage lending or foreclosure prevention counseling preferred.
Specialized training and certification through the NeighborWorks® Center for Homeownership Education & Counseling (NCHEC)
Proficiency in Spanish or other language is an asset, but not required
