New Moms believes that young moms who are experiencing poverty and homelessness have the potential to interrupt the cycle of poverty for two generations and create strong families and communities for generations to come. We offer opportunities for stable housing, job training, and family support for over 250 young moms and their children every year in an innovative two generational model. New Moms is a 35 year old nonprofit organization, with a budget of about $4 million and a staff of 50, focused on serving young moms and their children in Chicago and the near western suburbs. Our headquarters is located on the west side of Chicago in the Austin neighborhood. Our social enterprise, Bright Endeavors, which provides paid transitional jobs for young moms, is located nearby in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. We also have an office in Oak Park serving the near western suburbs.
About the Job:
New Moms innovative Transformation Center Housing (TCH) program serves 40 homeless young moms (ages 18-24) and their children with comprehensive housing and support services in a single-site, single-family apartment model. This is a time limited housing program for families. This full-time Family Support Specialist is an integral team member of our team to work to advance the missing of New Moms. We seek a professional who has a proven track record in working with young families experiencing homelessness, and seeking an opportunity to make a deep impact by providing high quality, best practice intensive coaching to support life skills and parenting as well as facilitating groups. He/she must be an exceptional communicator and relationship-builder who can work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Salary: $34-40k DOE.
Provides intensive and comprehensive support services up to 25 families from entry to exit who reside at the Transformation Center.
Supports families with their goals around self-sufficiency and permanent housing.
Plans and facilitates a variety of engagement activities/workshops and parent support groups that promote parent-child interactions and provides opportunities to increase self-sufficiency skills.
Assists with concrete needs and performs crisis prevention and intervention.
Participates in an on-call schedule a minimum of 1 week a month.

The successful candidate will posses:
Enthusiasm for mission-driven work and interest in work with homeless young parent led families.
Bachelor’s Degree in the area of social work, counseling, psychology or related field required; master’s preferred.
2 years of professional experience in housing and homeless youth services preferred.
Endorses a “Housing First” philosophy that integrates harm reduction, motivational interviewing, positive youth development, executive skills based coaching and trauma-informed practices.
Strong interest in working with young moms and their children.
Strong computer skills including use of electronic data bases including, Efforts to Outcomes, HMIS and/or eCornerstone.
Position requires utmost integrity; ethical behavior and appropriate business practices are expected.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
