The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) mobilizes communities to create equity and justice for people living with and vulnerable to HIV and related chronic diseases. We are seeking for an individual to serve as our Digital Communications Specialist. The Digital Communications Specialist leads engagement with the AIDS Foundation of Chicago’s most vital communities via digital mediums. This person executes AFC’s social media and email strategy and contributes to the content development process. The Specialist plays a key role in engaging AFC’s priority audiences in our work.
Principal functions and responsibilities of this position include the following:
Maintain flagship social media channels, from scheduling and publishing to monitoring and engaging followers;
Identify, develop and propose key metrics for social media; gather data and reports on performance against established metrics on a monthly basis;
Use insights from metrics to adjust strategy and tactics as needed and to aid in development and execution of future plans;
Own and regularly update the organization’s official social media policies and guidelines;
Plan for and track social media and social advertising budgets;
Manage and execute multiple paid and donated digital marketing campaigns in support of strategic priorities and revenue generating events — AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, World of Chocolate, World AIDS Day, Giving Tuesday, Year-End Giving;
Work collaboratively with stakeholders to transform stories, content, current events and outcomes into successful social media campaigns that help the organization connect with and expand its social following;
Serve as consultant to other teams and staff on creative, effective and appropriate use of social media channels and tools.
Identify content opportunities and contributes to content development for organization-wide events, awareness campaigns, advocacy efforts and programs;
Conceptualize and write feature stories per year for AFC’s blog;
Produce a range of high-quality written and visual content, including but not limited to video, live streams, email messages and blog posts.
Lead email production and execution, testing, proofreading and deployment of wide-audience email campaigns for AFC (including monthly e-newsletter, Insights; fundraising; awareness; and community event emails);
Develop creative, compelling and effective monthly e-newsletter that achieves strong engagement;
Partner with teams on strategic planning and execution of email communication plan and maintains email calendar;
Consult on emails for AFC’s Special Events, Programs and Policy and Advocacy teams;
Track campaign effectiveness through basic email reporting and analysis and create ongoing data-driven approach for continuous improvement;
Proactively research best practices for nonprofit email campaign creation and pursues educational opportunities to improve AFC’s connections with its audiences;
Manage email groups, interests and opt-in/opt-out strategies;
Ensure email adherence to applicable laws and best practices;
Lead special projects around email engagement.
Attend and volunteer at relevant fundraising and community events;
Meet with Senior Director of Communications on a weekly basis to track progress toward goals;
Lead and /or participate in special projects for the Special Events and Development teams at the Senior Director of Communications’ discretion;
Perform other duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
Assist with agency-wide activities as directed, including Annual Meeting, AIDS Run & Walk, and others;
Protect organization's value and manage risk by keeping information confidential;

3 or more years of experience in managing email blasts, social media platforms, and/or websites
1 or more years' experience with eCRM management, database management and audience generation, Google Analytics management, digital properties management, and/or digital marketing or communications management
1 or more years’ experience editing and/or copyediting written work, communications strategy and graphics
1 or more years' experience using Luminate Online (formerly Convio), social media management tools (i.e., Hootsuite or Buffer, Google software including Google Analytics, Google AdWords)
Spanish-language written and verbal skills

Anyone can become infected w...ith HIV, but HIV and related chronic diseases disproportionately impact certain populations in distinct geographic areas. We can have the greatest impact on the HIV epidemic by focusing our efforts on those most-impacted by HIV, based on epidemiological data and unmet need:
• Young Black gay and bisexual men
• Transgender women of color
• Black women living in high-incidence areas
• Latino gay and bisexual men
Factors that drive the HIV epidemic and health inequities that we will address include:
