The Residential Counselor cares for children with severe mental health and behavioral challenges at the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Child & Family Center. The Center provides a temporary home for 40 children and collaborates with families and outside stakeholders. As a Residential Counselor, you will be an active member of the treatment team in a child and family driven program. Your daily interactions will require you to rely on your ability to form healthy and therapeutic relationships with children. You will be pushed to find innovative ways to encourage social, emotional, and intellectual growth through mentoring, coaching, and problem-solving.
The work of a Residential Counselor is challenging and rewarding and provides an excellent learning opportunity for those interested in the child welfare or mental health field. If you are energetic, reflective, and creative, this could be a great opportunity for you. We are seeking candidates for the 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm shift.
Provide a consistent therapeutic environment for emotionally and behaviorally challenged children.
Plan and implement the daily routine utilizing the innovative Rice treatment model.
Meet individual clients’ and families’ needs by developing healthy relationships and advocating for their best interests, while encouraging social, emotional, and intellectual growth.
Cover unit during second shift hours (3pm-11:30pm).
Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field preferred (counseling, psychology, social work, rehabilitation counseling and related fields). Candidates with an Associates degree, High School diploma, or GED must have at least 5 year’s related experience in Residential Treatment, Clinical, Child Welfare, or Youth Advocacy.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must complete both a criminal background and driving clearance.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
