Job Description: Develop and manage the museum’s marketing for external communications; coordinate assigned programs and events; contribute to exhibition graphics and design; provide and ensure excellent customer service to the museum’s constituents and supervise volunteers and interns during museum shifts. This position averages 10- 15 hours per week and must cover the Sunday shift 11:30-4:30.
Reports to: Executive Director
Provide excellent customer service, promote the museum mission and vision in all activities, work collaboratively with American Indian and First Nation peoples, represent the museum both within and outside the building, and work to fulfill the museum’s operating and strategic goals.
Develop marketing and evaluation plan and maintain active work plan calendar for marketing deadlines, media contacts, and distribution lists. Develop and manage distribution of marketing materials with support of other staff and volunteers to outside venues, media outlets, and other organization’s websites.
Design and produce marketing, fundraising, evaluation, and membership materials including newsletter, e-blasts, brochures, flyers, invitations, surveys, annual report, and sponsorship, campaign, and benefit materials. Create design materials for programs and exhibits as needed. Manage social media and respond to media requests.
Manage and update museum’s website and museum’s content on other organization’s websites. Maintain museum’s Google calendar for public and internal events.
Open and close building for the public hours, programs, and events and monitor museum security. Route telephone messages, mail, and general e-mail to museum staff. Assist in facilities maintenance, notify Director of maintenance issues, and assist monitoring contractors as needed.
Oversee volunteers and interns who: Greet and answer visitor questions, process visitor’s admissions, answer and route telephone calls, process mailings, and process museum shop sales. Cover these roles if volunteers absent.
Coordinate and schedule tours and space rental, assemble craft materials, and set-up for programs and events, lead or assist with tours, crafts and programs as needed.
Record and tabulate attendance and demographic records (with volunteer support), input into databases for outreach and reporting.
Assist processing donations, new contact information, membership renewals and sales. Input into Past Perfect and generate thank you letters.
And other duties as assigned.
Ability to quickly learn and perform all duties with accuracy and efficiency
Experience in customer service and prioritizing multiple tasks to meet deadlines
Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Demonstration of creative marketing skills and experience
Proficiency in operating Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn new programs
Ability to lift and arrange equipment and furniture
Willingness to work independently and as a team
Must demonstrate respect of American Indian culture
Knowledge of Native American history preferred but not required
Ability to cover shifts during museum’s open hours Tuesday – Sunday and special events on weekends and evenings. This position needs to cover the Sunday 11:30-4:30 shift.
